pH Down works by slowly neutralizing some of the alkaline substances that cause high pH  in pond water.  It's important to test the pH when using this product .  pH should be lowered no more than 0.5 units every 24 hours.  Do not treat the pond more than once in 24 hours.  Plants and algae cause a temporary increase in pH in the afternoon, therefore, pH should be treated in the morning to obtain the most accurate reading.  Does not promote algae growth.
